Maher Melford Terminal

Maher Melford Terminal is developing a 315-acre container terminal and intermodal rail facility on Canada’s east coast. The privately-owned terminal will be located on a 14,000 acre industrial reserve on the Strait of Canso, Nova Scotia. Strategically situated on the great circle route, Maher Melford will be the closest east coast port to Europe and Asia via the Suez Canal. With zero air draft restrictions, ice-free and navigational water depth exceeding 90 feet (60 feet at the berth) the Terminal will be one of the few North American East Coast ports capable of handling the world’s largest current and forecasted containerships. With on-dock access to the CN Rail network, ocean carriers and their clients will benefit from excellent transit times between Asia and North American markets.

Similar to Maher Prince Rupert, the terminal is specifically designed as a high volume Intermodal container transfer facility. Containers will be rapidly moved between vessel and rail. Shippers will be able to efficiently and cost-effectively move containerized goods to major urban centers throughout the U.S. and Canada.

The Maher Melford Terminal is expected to have an initial capacity exceeding 1.5 million twenty foot equivalent units (TEUs).
